The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is yet to unblock and restore access to social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube in Pakistan, which have been blocked since four days following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan.
According to the details, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not received any instructions from the Federal Government regarding restoration of social media platforms in the country.
Meanwhile, the regulator has restored access to mobile internet services across the country, which were also suspended for three days. However, there are still a few sensitive areas with limited or no access to internet.
It is pertinent to mention that social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube were blocked by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on the instructions of the Government after arrest of Former Prime Minister and PTI chairman, Imran Khan.
The arrest led of widespread protests and riots across the country as PTI workers and supporters took to the street to express their disappointment with the incumbent government over the act.
On Thursday, the Former Prime Minister was given bail by the Supreme Court (SC) and told him to approach the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which barred Khan’s arrest in cases across Pakistan till Monday.
Following the hearing, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) restored access to mobile internet services across the country. However, the telecom regulator did not receive any instructions from the Government to restore access to blocked social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube in Pakistan.
